The Benefits
Why Understanding Your Energy Matters
Self-knowledge is the oldest tool for living well. BaZi gives you a language for what you already sense.
Understand Your Timing
Every decade, year and month carries a different energy. Knowing which energies support you helps you choose the right moments to launch, rest, invest, or pivot — rather than pushing against the tide.
Improve Your Relationships
Understanding your own elemental nature — and how it interacts with others — brings profound clarity to why some connections feel natural and others feel like hard work. BaZi can reveal the energetic dynamics beneath the surface.
Know Your Strengths
Your Day Master reveals how you naturally operate — your instincts, your gifts, and the qualities that come most effortlessly to you. Working with these rather than against them is one of the most powerful shifts you can make.
Navigate Challenges
Difficult periods in life often coincide with clashing elemental energies. Recognising this takes the sting out of hard times — it shifts the question from "why is this happening to me?" to "what is this period asking me to learn?"
Align with the Seasons
Chinese energy systems are rooted in nature. Learning to live more in tune with seasonal and monthly energy shifts — even in small ways — can create a remarkable sense of flow and reduce the feeling of swimming upstream.
Make Clearer Decisions
BaZi does not tell you what to do — but it illuminates the energetic context of your choices. Many people find that even a single reading brings a deep sense of clarity and permission to trust what they have long felt to be true.
A Note About These Readings
The readings you receive here are my personal interpretation of BaZi — shaped by years of dedicated study and practice. BaZi is a rich and complex system with many schools of thought, and different practitioners will approach it in different ways. There is no single "right" method; each practitioner brings their own understanding, intuition, and energy to the work.
What I offer reflects what I have learned, felt, and observed over time. I encourage you to hold these readings as one lens — a thoughtful perspective on the patterns in your chart — rather than as absolute truth. Take what resonates, sit with what surprises you, and trust your own inner knowing above all.

BaZi (八字) — pronounced "Bah-Dzuh" — means "Eight
Characters." It is an ancient Chinese system that maps the energy present at the exact moment of
your birth using the year, month, day and hour. These four units of time each contain two characters
— a Heavenly Stem and an Earthly Branch — giving you eight characters in total. Your Four Pillars.
The system is rooted in the understanding that the natural world is in constant flow between five
elemental energies — Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water — and that the blend of these energies at
your birth shapes your natural tendencies, strengths, and the cycles of your life.
BaZi has been studied and refined by many schools over centuries. The calculations used here place
particular importance on the Winter Solstice as the energy shift point of the year, your birth
season as a measure of your Day Master's strength, and the Flying Star system for understanding
monthly and annual energy patterns.
Your Day Master is the Heavenly Stem of your Day Pillar —
the single most important character in your entire chart. It represents your core self: your nature,
your instincts, and the elemental energy that defines how you move through the world.
There are ten possible Day Masters — two for each of the five elements (one Yang, one Yin). Yang Wood
is the tall tree — strong, upright, a natural leader. Yin Wood is gentle grass — adaptable and
resilient. Yang Fire is the sun — radiant and generous. And so on. The Day Master is always read
alongside the season you were born in, because the season determines how strong or weak your
elemental energy is at birth.
Structure, precision, standards. Yang Metal = forged steel. Yin
Metal = fine jewellery.
Water 水
Intuition, flow, adaptability. Yang Water = the ocean. Yin Water =
morning dew.
The Five Elements (五行 Wu Xing) are five phases of energy in
constant movement and relationship with each other. Your chart shows how much of each element is
present across your four pillars.
The elements follow two key cycles. The Generating Cycle:
Wood feeds Fire → Fire creates Earth → Earth produces Metal → Metal holds Water → Water nourishes
Wood. Each element supports the next. The Controlling
Cycle: Wood roots Earth → Earth absorbs Water → Water extinguishes Fire → Fire melts
Metal → Metal chops Wood. Each element keeps another in check.
No element is good or bad — the goal is understanding your natural blend. An element missing from
your chart points to a life area that may need more conscious attention or support.
Every day carries its own energetic quality — determined by that day's Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch, just like the pillars in your birth chart. As the day's energy moves through the year, it either flows in harmony with your personal chart or creates friction against it.
When the day's element supports your Day Master — through the generating cycle — you tend to feel more naturally energised, clear-headed and effective. Decisions made on these days often feel lighter. When the day's element clashes or controls your Day Master, you may notice more resistance, fatigue, or things requiring extra effort. These are not bad days — but they reward awareness and restraint over forcing.
Beyond your personal chart, each day also carries a Day Officer — one of twelve rotating qualities that the traditional Chinese almanac (Tong Shu) has used for centuries to guide timing. Some officers are auspicious for beginnings, some for receiving, some for rest, and some — like the Destruction day — are best avoided for important actions entirely.
Additionally, certain days each month are marked as Sha days — days when specific types of energy are harmful. Water Sha days disturb water Qi (avoid cleaning ponds, fish tanks, wells). Fire Sha days disturb fire Qi (avoid lighting new hearths, major cooking fires). Compass Sha days carry directional energy that should not be activated. Year Breakers and Month Breakers are the most significant — days when the energy directly opposes the year or month's ruling animal, and major decisions are best avoided entirely.
Supporting Days
When the day's element feeds yours. Energy flows, tasks feel easier. Good for important meetings, decisions, new starts.
Clashing Days
When the day's branch directly opposes yours. Not catastrophic, but demands more care. Avoid irreversible decisions.
Auspicious Officers
Success (成), Open (開) and Establish (建) days carry the most positive energy for launching, signing and committing.
Caution Days
Destruction (破), Danger (危) and Sha days call for restraint. Rest, reflect, and let the energy pass before acting.
The Five Elements do not exist in isolation — they pulse through the year in a natural seasonal cycle. Understanding which element governs each season explains why you may feel different energetically at different times of year, and why certain months either amplify or challenge your Day Master.
Wood 木 Spring
February–April. Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon months. Energy rises upward — growth, beginnings, movement. Wood Day Masters peak. Metal DMs face challenge.
Fire 火 Summer
May–July. Snake, Horse, Goat months. Energy expands outward — visibility, heat, expression. Fire DMs peak. Water DMs face challenge.
Earth 土 Transitions
Last 18 days of each season. Dragon, Goat, Dog, Ox months. Grounding energy — settling, stabilising. Earth DMs consolidate power here.
Metal 金 Autumn
August–October. Monkey, Rooster, Dog months. Energy contracts inward — harvesting, refining, releasing. Metal DMs peak. Wood DMs face challenge.
Water 水 Winter
November–January. Pig, Rat, Ox months. Energy descends — stillness, wisdom, rest. Water DMs peak. Fire DMs face challenge.
When your birth month's element matches the current season, you are in a period of natural amplification. When the season's element controls yours, practise conservation of energy and avoid overextending. The premium monthly reading calculates this for you each month automatically.
In Chinese philosophy, Qi (氣) — pronounced "Chee" — is the life force that flows through everything: the natural world, the cosmos, and every human being. It is not a metaphor. Ancient Chinese scholars observed that the same energy patterns governing the seasons, weather and tides also move through people's lives in predictable rhythms.
In Feng Shui, Qi is the energy of a physical space — how it flows, where it stagnates, and how it can be activated or redirected to support the people living in it. Doors, furniture placement, colour and orientation all influence how Qi moves through a home or workplace.
In BaZi, Qi is personal. Your birth chart is a map of the exact quality and blend of Qi present at the moment you arrived in the world. That energetic signature shapes your nature, your strengths, your challenges, and the periods of your life when certain energies naturally rise or fall. Understanding your Qi is not about fate — it is about working with the energy you carry rather than against it.
Flowing Qi
When your chart elements support one another in sequence, energy moves smoothly — life tends to feel more effortless in these periods.
Blocked Qi
Clashing or controlling elements can create resistance. These periods are often catalysts for growth, change, and important decisions.
Personal Qi
Your Day Master element is your core Qi. When the year or month brings energy that supports it, you naturally feel stronger and more aligned.
Seasonal Qi
The season you were born in determines how strong your personal Qi is at birth — whether your element is in its natural peak or at rest.
Yin (陰) and Yang (陽) are the two fundamental forces that underpin all of Chinese philosophy. Yang is active, outward, bright, warm, and expansive — associated with the sun, daytime, summer, and movement. Yin is receptive, inward, cool, still, and contracting — associated with the moon, night, winter, and rest. Neither is better. Both are essential.
Every Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch in your chart is either Yin or Yang. This determines how your elemental energy expresses itself. Yang Wood (Jia 甲) is the tall oak — bold, direct, visible. Yin Wood (Yi 乙) is the flowering vine — flexible, subtle, finding its way around obstacles. Same element, very different personality.
The goal is not to be more Yang or more Yin — it is balance. A chart heavy in Yang energy may bring drive and ambition but also burnout and restlessness. A chart heavy in Yin energy may bring deep intuition and calm but also indecision or withdrawal. Reading your chart's Yin/Yang balance helps you understand where you naturally thrive — and where you might need to consciously bring in the opposite quality.
Yang 陽
Active · Outward · Bright · Warm · Visible · Masculine · Expansive · Day · Summer · Action
Yin 陰
Receptive · Inward · Still · Cool · Hidden · Feminine · Contracting · Night · Winter · Rest
In Your Chart
Count your Yang vs Yin stems. A strong imbalance points to both your greatest strengths and your most common growth edges.
In Daily Life
Yin/Yang also applies to time: use Yang energy for launching and creating. Use Yin energy for reflecting, healing, and planning.
Your birth chart is fixed — it never changes. But the Luck Cycles (大運
Da Yun) are a sequence of ten-year periods that move through your life, each bringing a
different elemental pillar that overlays your natal chart like a shifting weather pattern.
Think of your birth chart as your permanent landscape — the mountains, rivers and soil you were born
with. Your Luck Cycles are the seasons that pass through that landscape. Some decades bring energy
that naturally supports your Day Master. Others bring challenge — these are often periods of
significant change and transformation.
Understanding which Luck Cycle you are currently in is one of the most practical aspects of BaZi — it
helps explain why certain decades of your life felt very different from others.
